About a birth — Volume 1

Blogging while taking care of an infant = difficult task indeed

I have been busy….. Tim and I welcomed our baby boy right after New Year’s day!!!

The short, but sweet version of the story:

____________________________________________

On January 2, 2016 I went into labor at approximately 2 AM. Everything did not go according to plan. Birth plan? Well, it wasn’t set in stone. Tim knew what I wanted to do, but it all went out the window.

I was induced, pushed for 3 hours and gave birth to my little dude, Declan at 7:15 PM.

STATS

Weight: 6 lbs, 11 oz

Length: 21”

Hospital: St. Jude’s Medical Center, Fullerton

The nothing sugar coated version :

____________________________________________

Murphy’s Law- For the first time in my life, I get a flu shot and end up catching a cold. From December 29th and on, my sleep schedule was all screwed up due to this nagging cold! I would wake up every few hours because I had a sore throat and a terrible cough. Tim seemed to think that all the coughing attributed to my early delivery. Declan must not have liked the fact that his mom was gargling mouth wash and saline water!!

January 2, 2016 at approximately 2 A.M, I wake up to a alarming sensation. It felt like I was peeing in my pants! I was about to shrug it off by attempting to fall back asleep, but it got worse. At first it was a tiny trickle but then it turned into a steady flow. Panicking, I immediately got out of bed and sat on the toilet. Thanks to all those pregnancy books I read, I took their advice and started wearing a pad in case my water broke. The pad was soaked. As I wiped my under carriage, I found the toilet paper was stained with blood. More fluid gushed out (not really, I’m just using that word for dramatic effect!) and I wiped again and noticed a jelly substance mixed in with blood. Frightened, I called out to my husband, “Tim, I think my water just broke. I’m scared.”

I call St. Jude’s nurse hotline and am asked to explain the situation in detail. The nurse listened and asked for clarification, “So, you had some clear and bloody discharge, but no contractions whatsoever?”

“Correct.”

She decided to page the Doctor on call, which just so happened to be Doctor Henderson. What are the odds that MY doctor would be on duty?! I secretly was hoping he would be help me through the delivery. I was told that he would call me back shortly. Minutes later, I get a call from Dr. Henderson and am asked a few of the same questions. He instructed for me to come to the hospital. So much for going through active labor at home!

To be continued. Declan calls!
